Eligibility Criteria

Who can apply for a UWC scholarship?

Applicants to UWC who apply through UWC Ireland should comply with the following eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants should be 16, 17 or 18 years old on the 1st of September of the year that they wish to enter a United World College. Do note though that some colleges may require additional information and potentially a background check for nominated candidates who are over 18 on 1st Sept.
  • Applicants should have completed their Junior Certificate examinations at the time of application. An equivalent state examination will be considered by UWC Ireland should the applicant meet the other eligibility criteria.
  • Successful applicants will be representing Ireland at United World Colleges. Therefore, applicants should be an Irish citizen or have lived in Ireland (including Northern Ireland) for at least 3 of the 5 years prior to applying.
  • Applicants selected for interview must be available physically in-person to attend the individual and group interviews. For 2024 entry, these will be held on 10th February 2024 in Dublin.

Special circumstances may apply to certain applicants and these will be taken into consideration by UWC Ireland. If an applicant is unsure of their status or has any queries about the eligibility criteria please contact us.

Applicants must not make more than one application to UWC concurrently. Making more than one application could result in a rejection of all applications.
